Saria has won

Update: Not much to say aside from being happy its done and feeling like the colors turned out a little more vibrant than usual.
It looks like Saria's sprite will need an overhaul, along with a few others...
A new poll will be up once I have a bit more time.

Lineart. Still very busy, but I will try to finish this up soon.

    1. How would you expect that type of scene to go down. I've got an idea in mind, but I'm curious to hear others.

  4. Deku Baba, needs more mutant flower sex

  5. Come on, where is the "Forest Strikes Back" option with all three?

  6. I'm torn between Deku Scrub and Skulltula.

Vine tentacles are a dime a dozen compared to the other options.

A Skulltula could use a penis or multiple of it's legs, even mandibles on clit for some kinky shit.

I'm having a hard time visualizing the Deku Scrub, I'm not sure how you are intending to portray their anatomy. That snout could be interesting.

I guess put me down for Skulltula.

    1. Oh shit someone on /v/ mentioned Deku Baba saliva melting clothes.

I love that fetish enough to make me reconsider Deku Baba.

    2. I was planning on having Saria get eaten out, so doing something with the saliva might be interesting.

    3. The idea that something could just drool away her pants to get directly at her crotch is super fucking hot. And of course there'd be enough splatter to melt away the other critical areas.

    1. Looking through the list of monsters, there's going to be a fair amount suitable for tentacles. You're probably going to like Jabu Jabu's Belly a lot.

  14. I really like the dissolving clothes look, maybe you could add a few more dissolved spots on her shirt to make it look like a more gradual transition? You could slip a nipple in that way.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. At the moment, we're working on a mechanic that may affect how clothes look in these scenes so I'm a little concerned about any major discrepancies between the two. There will be more dissolved spots, I just gotta find that middle ground.

    3. I think I made some changes that a few of the sprites could benefit from. I will also need to create more poses/expressions for many of the sprites soon anyways.
Maybe its just me, but I like to think that what many people hated about the sprites before has been somewhat ironed out in the newer drawings...

    4. Not the other anon, but you're right, I definitely agree when it comes to the newer drawings. They look much much better in comparison to the older sprites. I'm glad that you're going to redo them.

To the second anon; I'm not sure I totally understand you, but if the team ceased to exist or was on the verge of disbanding, I'd make a post saying so. That way there's no confusion about what happened to us, the blog, and the project.

    5. "On a more serious note, if we died I'd be straight with you all and make a post about it so there would be no confusion about whether we're actually gone or not."

As in, if everyone ceased to live, you would then make a post about your deaths.

    7. Gotcha. For some reason I didn't even relate what I said to actual death, just the figurative death of the project itself. Pay me no mind.

Anon2: I am affected by it, but for very different reasons. That said, I've always been dedicated to this project and I am still working on the necessities.
A blog update (good or bad) will come once our programmer gets back to me. Hopefully the wait won't be much longer.

    9. Is it just the lack of feedback or something?

      Delete
    10. Oh no, we're not dead, just struggling with moving forward. I'm not concerned with the time it takes, just whether or not we actually finish.

Anon2: Feedback is definitely important, but it doesn't really have anything to do with this. Aside from myself, and sometimes chrom, none of the other members really visit or deal with the blog anyway. That, and I'm actually impressed with how many people have ended up sticking around. Even more so considering some of the negative reception we received.
Its the work involved. Its easy to say you'll do it, but its much harder to follow through, especially considering the amount of time some of us have been working. This affects some of the other members, which in turn affects me.

  28. Just want to drop by and show my support. Despite not really featuring anything I want to see porn wise, it doesn't really dampen my excitement to see more fanmade zelda stuff. (I'm a huge Zelda fan)

I do like your art quite a bit Ling, especially the more recent stuff. (Colouring-wise especially)It's a pity that /f/dude quit or just stopped helping out after all of this time, I was excited to see what he could contribute to this project (Not as much after finding out he wasn't doing any of the gay content, or continue his LinkxScrub scene over into here, which is a huge letdown because the best stuff to come from him were the gay scenes he was working on) but it is a pity that he isn't contributing much. It's also a bit of a shocker to see that there's this huge burden being placed on you for a lot of the art aspect. I hope it doesn't deter you, and if I was a better artist, I would try to help.

Unfortunately I'm a terrible artist, and the only thing I can really offer is to say that I am a big fan of your guys' work so far (especially yours, ling), and i hope that this project doesn't die off like so many others with potential.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yeah, /f/dude's situation is very unfortunate. He came back a while ago and made some more progress on his scene, but that didn't last long and he's since stopped responding to all my attempts to contact him. I'm not sure what his situation is now, but I feel its safe to say he no longer has the time or interest to work with us.

As for the amount of work the art requires, that's actually not a big concern for me. To be straight with you, I have far more on my plate than just that. I joined and helped found the ZVN as a colorist, but out of necessity I have ended up creating and designing almost all of the content for this project. The only thing I don't really have a hand in is actually programming and implementing that content. And that's where the problem lies. The member responsible for programming and implementing that content hasn't made any major progress on the build since February, and worse yet they've recently disappeared after saying they'd buckle down and make some serious updates.
I know he'll show up again at some point, but probably not with much or any progress, though I'd love for him to prove me wrong. Now he's a great guy, and so are the other members. They're all fun to work with. However, the ZVN's ended up being more of a time waster to them, rather than something they seriously care about, which is why I've become increasingly concerned about our situation. Too much time has passed for me to believe we can suddenly light a fire under our asses, so I really hope I can find at least one person who is not only passionate about being a part of the project, but has the work ethic to back it up.

Sorry for the rambling, but I felt like getting this off my chest might help. Your comment was very motivating and thanks for your thoughts on the art, I really appreciate it.

      Delete
    2. So he's just ignoring your attempts at contacting him? Have you removed him from the team?

It's no problem at all, I do really hope everything works itself out, but seeing your other posts down below, it looks like you at least have the programmer back, which is great.

      Delete
    3. Its difficult to judge, but I really can't see it being any other way. I've sent him emails, and tried to talk to him when he's online on both gmail's chat and steam. We haven't really removed him from the team though because its always been a little weird to get a hold of him (but that was because he wasn't online) and a part of me just wants this to be a misunderstanding of some sort. It doesn't seem like it'll happen, but I'd appreciate hearing from him that he's done rather than just cutting ties without saying anything.

Programmer has yet to return, but I did get a pretty positive note from him, so hopefully its not too much longer.

      Delete
    4. That doesn't really surprise me much, but that is a pretty dick move to just ignore you after saying he was going to help. Gauging from his history, I really wouldn't get your hopes up. I mean if he's online and just not responding, I wouldn't really expect it to be a "misunderstanding", especially since it's so easy to just take a few minutes out of your day to just respond.

Are you going to make an update when the programmer returns, and is there going to be anymore even small update posts soon? Seems a bit strange to have a discussion in a Saria pic post about the game in general.

  29. Looking at this picture then looking back on some of the drawings that include link, it seems like your a lot better at females anatomy than males, despite the current age that they're at, not really having much of a difference shape wise.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Not just that, but every time you draw dick or balls they just look strange. The balls and penis don't really look like that anatomy wise. You have the basic shape down, but it's incredibly strange looking. Furthermore on top of that, it's not really aesthetically pleasing, which may seem strange to you, but even straight guys don't want to look at malformed/mangled balls/dick going into a female's fuckbox.

Despite it already being said that the body type for Link was off in the last drawing (which was a pretty big difference), I do want to say that you should really practice on drawing genitals, both female and male, and try to make it look appealing for both sexes so it isn't as distracting. Aesthetics in porn and making things look appealing is very very important, (Well just getting the genitals correct in general when drawing porn is important) especially considering that VN's rely so heavily on art.

      Delete
    2. Thanks for pointing that out, I'll work on it. Are you also talking about the monster dicks too, or just that one image with Link?
I think some of the problems with Link in that keese girl image was a result of the difficult perspective buca and I ended up going with.

      Delete
    3. It's less noticeable with the monsters because they're monsters, and their dicks logically can be slightly malformed or odd looking and it's a-okay. When it comes to Link though, it's a bit more noticeable, so I would say just the Link ones, but yes it's the dicks in general.

  30. Sorry to hear about the situation. Unfortunately it seems like this is just a risk you take when you try to get strangers across the internet to collaborate on something seriously. 2. I appreciate the sentiments guys, and sorry I worried you. I'm glad to say that it seems I have been proven wrong about the build's progress. Our programmer finally got in touch with me late last night via a rather upbeat swapnote. I think my reaction while the note was downloading was something like "I never get swapnotes, this must be from Nintendo. There is no way its him. He definitely wouldn't contact me like this. I'm getting my hopes up for nothi- ITS HIM!"
He said he's made some headway and he'll be back ASAP. No sign of him yet, but with any luck things should be back to normal soon enough.
While my concern about our work and motivation still lingers, I'm happy enough now just knowing we haven't lost our leader.

    3. Oh sweet, I'm glad. Thanks for updating Ling.

  31. Hey Ling, I noticed that you tried to gather more information and such on the blog about your guys' followers of this VN. Opening a discussion about a variety of things, and it was definitely a more interesting post as I'm glad you're willing to have conversations with your fans and followers, even if it's to gauge what people are looking forward to the most.

Though it made me think a bit, as you kinda got a bit of a varied response. If your intent was to just get feedback about peoples opinions, you should hold a poll to see what people mostly want to see from the VN, as I assume most of the people who come here are probably lurkers (Judging from the poll results, you seem to get more votes than posters).

I've been frequenting this blog for quite some time and after seeing a bunch of posts about what people want to see, and about how many people comment on wanting to see gay porn but still stick around to help out with feedback, it makes me wonder how many people are actually here for porn, gay porn, any gameplay aspects, or story. IMO if you want to get a better understanding for what people are coming here for, or hoping for, you should hold a poll. As in voting for what aspects you want to see, or what you're hoping for from this.

It could also be a nice filler in this downtime you're in with the updates. Just a suggestion though.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Not a bad idea, but my intent with that post was really just to hear opinions and feedback because I like communicating with everyone and discussing their thoughts. I'm not too big a fan of polls because it turns those thoughts into numbers, therefore losing much of its meaning and importance to me. That type of poll also wouldn't truly determine anything despite the outcome, and it may even be discouraging to see just how many people are only here for (gay) porn and don't really care about what we're doing with the writing or dungeon/battle systems.
I'd definitely make a similar post after we release a demo, and I may make a poll then because by that point people would have had hands on time with everything and it would tell us what areas we should improve or spend a little more time on.

Sorry about the downtime, I know it sucks. If our programmer remains absent for much longer I may make a post with some doodles/linework of sprite poses/expressions I'm working on just to liven things up and clarify we aren't dead yet, but until he returns there won't be any major posts.

      Delete
    2. (Not the same anon)

Not exactly sure how it could be discouraging when almost any VN's focal point is on the porn. When it comes to a VN, people don't usually play them expecting great gameplay, they play them for the porn, everything else is icing on the cake. There are exceptions like Rance series of course, which could be a good game even without the porn mechanics. Though I hate to break this to you, if people come here, they're most likely wanting porn, and porn of Zelda characters at that. So if a poll showed everyone wanting gay or straight porn, it should really be a no brainer as to why.

Gauging by how many people have already talked about wanting porn, or gay porn, and seeing how the posts with porn even get more comments and you've now amassed more people as well through being active and posting porn, it just reinforces my point. Also looking at all the gay porn posts, I think you have your answer there already even without a poll.

Despite this, I do agree with the anon above, as having a discussion and a poll should go hand in hand with gathering information like that IMO, some people don't want to or even have time to write out paragraphs about their thoughts, and would be better to be given something more concise to give their opinion, and a poll is a perfect catalyst. Otherwise you only give precedence to people who want to hold a very specific type of discussion, and hell maybe when it comes to other people even if you put time constraints aside, sometimes people find questions like that better suited to staying private, or maybe they don't want to talk about that specific thing. Hell, I've tried to give feedback in my spare time, but i didn't respond to that last post, it shouldn't mean that i have to write an essay just to give input, a poll would be ideal for something like that. In my opinion everything you said is a bit silly, and I disagree.

Sucks about the programmer also, hope he returns soon.

      Delete
    3. I should probably mention I am very well aware that people are here for the porn, and probably mostly gay porn at that. I'm not trying to trick myself into thinking otherwise by not hosting a poll.

You may have to look at it a little from my perspective to understand why it may be a bit of a bummer to actually see that embodied in a poll. I have put forth a lot of effort into far more than just the porn. To have a poll that doesn't affect development in any way (we're already planning a lot of porn, and we wouldn't skimp or dismiss other aspects just because people aren't nearly as interested in them) where nearly everyone says they're here for (gay) porn would be rather painful to see every time I drop by.

A discussion on the other hand is something that brings forth thoughts and ideas I can really think about and possibly even try to include, even if porn is the only thing discussed (though that'd be a bit of a shame). Its much better to me than 85 people simply saying "porn", because I really can't do anything with that. You may feel "represented" by including your vote on that poll, but to put it bluntly, it wouldn't mean a thing.

I am also rather hesitant about including yaoi in that type of poll due to how uncertain its become. I feel it would be a bit of a lose/lose situation whether I include or exclude that option. I imagine yaoi would probably win, or at least do very well, in which case I think it would just add to the disappointment for everyone involved if we ended up being unable to deliver.

Now hosting a poll like this after we've released a demo would be completely different because people would have had hands on time with what we're planning/working on. In that instance, a poll coupled with a discussion could really determine what areas we should improve or elaborate upon.

Sorry if that still doesn't make any sense to you or the first anon, its just something I'm a bit uncomfortable with.

Yeah, I'm not sure what our programmer's up to. He's never disappeared like this before. He said he'd be back ASAP on Saturday so he must be really busy with something.

      Delete
    4. Also, we haven't really amassed any more viewers due to activity or posting porn. They've always been here judging by the view count, though they've certainly been more active. If anything we lost a ton of viewers the moment I made a post saying we didn't have a yaoi artist yet and that we were still looking for one.

And finally, we have a few ways for people to express their ideas. Some people have even felt the need to join the project just for that unfortunately... If for some reason people are uncomfortable with sharing their thoughts anonymously on here, they could always email one of us. And if a poll actually helps determine something, like the scenes, or possibly what idea we should go with, then of course I'll use one for that purpose as well.

      Delete
    5. That actually makes a lot more sense now that you've elaborated, thanks for taking the time to clarify.

      Delete
    6. This really doesn't pertain to the whole voting or poll discussion, but I do have a question for you Ling.

Should anyone who wants any form of gay porn not bother to stick around? I'm actually curious because while it is plausible you may get another artist for it, it doesn't look like it'll happen at all. We're not just looking at a "Meh might happen", it's more or less a 99% chance it won't happen it looks like.

You guys have enough problems with just the basics of your development process, which makes adding something like that, (Which none of you particularly are interested in) doubtful to say the least. I mean you've personally been working on a lot more than you initially signed up for, and are kinda shouldering a lot of the work yourself. So I really would like to hear your opinion about this.

If you think about it, if there are a ton of followers that want that, yet who are most likely not going to get it, what would you suggest? Just stop contributing with feedback/criticism and not get your hopes up? Essentially just go away?

I mean the people who are still here DESPITE how not only the project is getting tons of bad news as of late (sans the programmer returning), are obviously die hard fans, and ESPECIALLY those who want the gay porn as it's probably never going to happen, and ONTOP of that you don't even LIKE gay porn. So it's just incredibly ironic if there's a shit ton of people trying to help with feedback and such, taking all of this into account if they want that to be included.

This is also an interesting enough discussion for me personally while you guys are on your downtime.

      Delete
    7. I think you answered similar questions to this before but you pretty much just said "It won't happen until we find someone". But I'm mostly asking about what you personally think about the entire thing, and what do you suggest to those that are looking forward to it and still trying to help (albeit not help enough)? As in, should they just go away and the people who want the straight porn just stay, as those people won't get disappointed?

      Delete
    8. To the first anon, thanks for understanding man.

To the second anon, that's definitely a fair concern. Of course I'd want you all to stick around because I like the company and feedback. Its much more fun having everyone around.

However, if I were to be honest with with you, I'd have to say what I've already said before. Undoubtedly that's not what you want to hear, but it is my honest, personal opinion. Despite how long its been, finding a yaoi artist is not as unlikely as it seems. We have yet to promote ourselves in any form for a very long time, and we are still very early in development.

The thing about yaoi is we'd be adding another artist to the team. We wouldn't really be stretching ourselves thin just to accommodate. Now of course that comes with all the risks and "joys" of adding another member to the team, especially in this case where there'd be a lot of work involved. How that turns out, nobody knows. They may be fantastic, or they may draw half a doodle before disappearing forever. Depending on how things turn out, I may even end up working with them to make the art consistent with what we already have (dunno if that'd be a good or bad thing for everyone, guess it depends on the other artist). There are certainly a concerning amount of ifs there.

Then there's yaoi dialogue/writing. Our writers wouldn't mind writing yaoi. Given my hand in the script I may even be the one writing it from scratch, or at the very least I know I'll be editing it if it does happen. I've brought this up a couple of times, but it doesn't really seem to interest anyone. Thinking about it, something like this would make for a good poll once the blog starts moving again.

If you're only anticipating the possibility of yaoi, then no, you probably don't need to visit the blog very often. Hell, I hate to admit it, but if you're just dropping by for regular updates you probably don't need to do so very often...
In the end I'd say if you don't want to be disappointed seeing the lack of yaoi everyday then yes, you can probably "forget" about the project. Instead, drop by every couple of months or so just in case we may have found a devoted person willing to fill the role. I'd also refrain from getting your hopes up until you either see them in action or I make a post saying we found one.

    9. Well that blows, I've been coming on here pretty much daily for almost the past year or so (Close to when you first started this blog) and was looking forward to the possibility of Yaoi inclusion. I've been hanging around and commenting for a while now, and have tried to help the best someone simply following the project can. (I even tried to stick up for your art hate threads on /v/ a while back to really no avail)

While It isn't the "only" thing I've been looking forward to, it's still disheartening to hear this kind of news, despite it being really apparent without you having to say anything. Shit's pretty rare as it is, and i was hoping that maybe one of these days when you get more free time (and aren't doing a majority of pretty much everything) you may try your hand at it Ling, as I do enjoy your artwork quite a bit (One of the main reasons i keep coming around here, another big one is you being so vocal and friendly, and willing to partake in discussion about the Visual Novel), but that would probably never happen right? Oh well.

(I was about to ask a similar question, but this anon beat me to it, pretty much answered what I was going to ask anyways.)

      Delete
    10. I am sorry about that, and thanks for all the help you've provided thus far.
Extra props for sticking up for the art in those threads. Gotta be pretty ballsy to go up against an entire thread full of angry anons.

Regarding whether or not I'd be willing to draw yaoi, that really depends. Its not something I'm interested in, but I'm not really averse to giving it a shot (just like the writing). The problem is more the amount of work I have on my plate and how drawing yaoi would require more time than I would be capable of setting aside, especially when considering even porn in general is still not a big priority for us just yet.
That said, if there were a few opportune moments for yaoi in the script and its not too much work to include, I could see something like that happening. But for a truly significant amount of yaoi, there's no way I'd be able, or truthfully, all that willing, to set aside that much time for. The only way that'd be a possibility is if I could draw much faster (something I've been struggling with since I started), and I didn't have so many things weighing me down. It would just be much better if I could find someone to help out there. If we do, I wouldn't be opposed to working together with them to an extent.

Now I'm just going to ramble on about something only semi-related.
When I initially started working on this project, I was PUMPED. I felt like there was no way anybody (well, anybody who was into Zelda and lewd things) could dislike what we were trying to accomplish and that we would have no shortage of people who'd want to be a part of it. Basically, I was pretty naive. When we first started trying to get noticed on /vg/ and /v/, the reception wasn't bad at all. If I were to sum it up, it'd be something like, "Oh, that's pretty neat". Not very enthusiastic, but certainly nothing negative.

It wasn't until that Link sprite, the first zvn thread, and we had cycled through a fair number of recruits that I realized this was going to be much harder than I thought it would be. Not because of the actual work involved, I had a good idea of how difficult that would be almost from the start, but because finding people who are both passionate and willing to put forth a lot of effort was incredibly difficult. Not was it difficult bringing new people in, but the team's morale and interest fluctuates very often.

Now I'm a rather slow/meticulous worker with a full time job and other obligations. I can't shoulder much on my own, but I haven't lost my initial passion for this project. I will keep working on it until I know for sure its no use and I can't carry on. The support I receive from the team, as well as everyone here really helps support that drive. To be honest, I never thought the blog would provide that, especially after the reception for the project turned so sour so quickly, but I'm incredibly grateful there are people who care. Thank you everyone.

    11. Yeah that's very understandable, a pity but definitely understandable.

Unfortunately the reality is usually far off from any form of expectations regarding well, anything. That being said, it is really shitty that you had to put up with that amount of backlash for just trying to create something for free and share it with other people, and get others involved.

I think that you have way too much faith in people, /f/dude wasn't a big surprise at all. He flaked out like he's done for like the 4th time or so now (He's gone through quite a few flashes and has disappeared and promised many things before the incident with him shitting on the fanbase that was helping him, which you can also attribute /v/'s stupidity as a factor there as well). I think that regarding his history, you should have been a bit more skeptical. Then you look at /v/ and /vg/, which is a great place for entertainment and hate, but not much else (/vg/ is fanboy central). There are exceptions, but it's rare.

I mean you really have to look at this from another person's perspective. They have to join a team of people they don't know, actually WORK, may have their ideas or things they want shot down or not included, may have to face extensive criticism, may not get along with the other members, and for what? The only thing they would get rewarded is pleasing people IF they worked their asses off and did a good job. Even if the creative process is fun and they're passionate, there are so many factors present that it would deter a lot of people. There's just little incentive, and regarding the backlash it probably doesn't help that much either.

Then there was that whole incident with /f/dude and a lot of people hating him for the shit he pulled to the guys who were helping him. (Speaking of which I actually got in touch with the writer that helped /f/dude a couple of weeks ago, I sent him an email after all that shit happened with /f/dudes blog, and told him about your guys' VN and asked if he'd be interested in helping, and he finally responded.) That doesn't exactly incite a lot of faith either though, despite everyone seemingly being pleasant on your blog so far, bar like one or two incidents.

Though it's inspiring to hear that despite all of the backlash, and your team not really contributing nearly enough or working enough to help that much, you still haven't lost your initial drive and that you're still working on the VN. In regards to your thanks, I should be thanking you, you're a pleasure to talk to and I do enjoy your art and your drive to pump out quality and even improve. Even if there's no Yaoi ever included, I just want to say that I'm still a big fan, and I'll still come by daily and try to help with feedback and help as much as i can, even if there's no yaoi porn or any form of yaoi inclusion. So no worries on that front.

      What are you, gay?

Joking aside, i have to agree with the lengthy post (except maybe a few things in there), I'll still stick around also even if no link dicking is included. When you guys decide to go around and get more exposure from the blog, i could always try to help, i know some popular porn forums and such that would be interested in knowing about this VN.

    13. You could always do a yaoi scene or two every like 3-5 months if you ever get people helping with everything else and don't get a yaoi artist, it would be something and wouldn't be excessive, as kind of a backup plan if you never get a yaoi artist and arent completely opposed to it.

      Delete
    14. Yeah, it was a pretty big surprise to see that reception. This may sound strange, but from my viewpoint, the art, and the project in general, could look far shoddier and I still wouldn't have understood those threads. I would've understood /v/ and maybe /vg/ ignoring it, or having a laugh, and possibly saying they'd try it out just to see how bad it was, but it was all the anger and flat out insults that shook me. When I tried to figure out why, it just made things even worse. That's all in the past now though, hopefully.

Unfortunately, /v/, and to a lesser extent /vg/ were the only options we really considered for finding support, as no one on the team really had any presence in hentai forums and such. I'm not nearly as active on /v/ as the others are, but it is part of what brought us together so there was also that.

Regarding /f/dude, I get the feeling he has trouble telling people "no". He also set very difficult goals for himself. I could be wrong, but when I talked and worked with him, he'd always say ok, no matter what was asked of him (whether or not he'd do it is another matter). I think he kind of buries himself by accepting everything that's asked of him, despite how he feels about it, and it keeps piling up until he can't take it anymore. Judging by how he never brought forth any ideas or suggestions, and he never appeared very enthusiastic in the chats, I'd almost say he joined just for that reason.

Back before I really knew why lozhq met its demise, I was really pushing for /f/dude to take over the blog. He had told me that his experience with his previous blog really helped motivate him, and I figured everyone would like to see him working again. Now that I know, it may have been a good thing he only listened to me once. Even just that was a bit of a disaster in the comments section, though I'm not sure if that was just my fault for posting something that could've been easily misunderstood.
It also really struck me how different he is when he's posting something on a blog, compared to when he's actually talking to you in person, but that's a little irrelevant. I'm still not 100% sure if he's actually ignoring me, or even if he's done with the project, but either way, I'd just like to hear from him so I know for certain. At this point all we have is one unfinished flash animation to show for his involvement.
I am curious what that writer had to say. Though I imagine if you didn't share it, they probably declined. I heard from /f/dude that the others on his project had some pretty strong words to say about what we were doing, but I'm not sure if that was just their artist.

As for working on the ZVN, I view the incentives for joining a little differently. To me, you should join the project, not to please people, but because you want to get the satisfaction that comes from creating and completing the project. Its just like the satisfaction you get from drawing, or any endeavor you feel strongly about (though its certainly a much bigger commitment than usual). If you go into it with only a mild interest and just thinking about pleasing people, then the work is quickly going to exhaust you.
I completely agree with you about the uncertainties involved with development and the reception certainly hasn't done us any favors. Though I would hope the blog has made joining a little less daunting, because that's why we initially created it.

I'm definitely glad to hear that. I'm really motivated by the support.
You guys truly liven up the place.

As for sharing this blog on other forums, that'd be great. I'm a little nervous about it getting too much exposure considering the subject matter, but if you're willing to spread the word a bit, I'd love that.

I can't make any promises about tackling the yaoi personally, but if at some point I start drawing more quickly and I don't have too many other things going on, I can't see why I shouldn't give it an honest shot.

    15. It might have been left over hate from /f/dude's project. I don't know if you saw some of the shit that people thought /f/dude posted on /v/, which was met with a lot of hate on /v/ for a few days after the project died. I could be wrong though, and i think that was brought up the last time those threads were seen. It was incredibly odd that it was met with such hate though, even as you said if the quality was substantially lower, it still wouldn't explain the amount of unbridled rage there.

I know quite a few places you could try to get support, that would be a lot better off trying than /v/ or /vg/.

That makes some sense I guess, as to his habits and why he keeps flaking out.

I think that was just hatred for /f/dude aimed at you in that comment. I remember reading that before it was deleted and it was just crazy. There have been less and less negative things being said now though, which is great. For the writer (I totally forgot to elaborate in that last comment), he was actually pleasant to talk to, he was a nice enough guy. He said that he wasn't especially interested in working with /f/dude again, after how he treated him and the artist. But he's aware of the VN and loosely follows the updates, he said he's been incredibly busy as of late but he'll send you an email about joining if you still need a writer or even an artist (I guess he draws too) after he's a bit less busy. He said some other stuff about knowing about this VN when he was helping out /f/dude and he and the artist talked about it. But yeah he pretty much said that when he's less busy, if you still need the help, it looks like he'll contact you (and by you, he said Ling. Which is kinda odd, but you did comment on /f/dudes blog quite a bit didn't you?). I guess that's pretty good news.

I completely agree with you there, It's just that people who are talented enough who feel this way are few and far between it seems.

No problem, I'm glad that it helps motivate you, I'll try to support ya guys as much as i can as a fan.

(That would be pretty great if that was at one time possible, for you trying to do a little yaoi)

      Delete
    16. You a bit cautious about the subject matter because not only it being loli/shota, but because of it being a pretty big franchise? I really don't think Nintendo would care much about a porn parody in visual novel style. Hell there's doujins that actually sell there in japan with copyrighted material in them.

      Delete
    17. Yeah, a couple of anons had mentioned that as a likely reason. I think it was a combination of things. I imagine it was mostly the viraling (showing up in almost every zelda thread according to some), which was then amplified by what had happened to lozhq. The art and I just became a very easy target.
There was a bit of foreshadowing in one thread where the original young link (the one before any revisions, that even I agreed looked uncanny) sprite was posted, but that was very tame in comparison. Everything kind of went downhill after that.

What kind of places do you have in mind?

That's good to hear about the writer. I'm glad they'd be willing to help out if they have the time, since we could always use more talented individuals.
Hm, I did comment a little on their blog, but I mostly just dropped by every once in a while for updates. I'm pretty sure I hadn't taken on the name Ling at that point either, so he must know me from here.

Haha, that's probably because those talented people are used to getting paid... Nothing helps motivate quite like cash. If only I was rich.

      Thanks man, appreciate it!

(Hopefully the situation will enable that at some point)

      --

I am a bit cautious about the loli/shota, but mostly its how Nintendo would respond should they learn about what we're doing. I've heard they're incredibly strict about this type of stuff and have even slapped doujins with C&Ds. All it would take is one email to blogspot or us, and there goes the blog. I figure that has to be why there are so few Zelda porn doujins and parodies. Then again, Passage/finalhentai exists and they charge money so who knows...

      Delete
    18. That sounds a lot more plausible.

Well there's actually quite a few forums out there that would probably be viable to post this on, I could list a few if you want.

and yeah I hope he contacts you, it's good that he actually drops by here as well apparently. There couldn't be that much disdain for this project as /f/dude made it out to be.

Yeah, everyone wants to make a quick buck. It sucks that you aren't getting more people trying to help.

      Delete
    19. Well one of the reasons we, or at least I, was hesitant about forums was because I felt like one of us should have an actual presence there before just signing up and immediately making threads about what we're working on. It felt like that would be a little disingenuous somehow.
I'd definitely appreciate that list though and I'll be sure to check them out. You might also feel like convincing me that what I just said was weird and there's no need to worry about it. Either way.

Well, /f/dude never mentioned the writer, but he did say the artist had some pretty strong opinions about what we were doing, especially regarding the art.
It'd definitely be interesting to hear the writer's side of things about what happened to lozhq.

Its not quite the number of people offering to help that's the problem, but how often they work and whether or not they stick around. Still, money would help solve that problem as well.

      Delete
    20. No it makes sense, you may be interpreted as solely using their forums as a proxy for advertising. But a lot of the porn forums have a lot of people/developers who have done this in the past and there was really nothing said about it. Should I try to link everything in the next post or just email you the list?

If the writer ever even bothers to send you an email, you should ask him about the artist. If that's even true and if the artist would be willing to help also. The way he worded the email though makes it sound like he won't send anything, or rather it would probably be a while.

Money would probably bring in more talented people as well, as it seems everyone tries to make money off of their trade, even if they have little talent in any one aspect.

      Delete
    21. Yeah I doubt many people would truly mind, or at least I'd hope not. I probably shouldn't be worrying about how it happens at this point all things considered.
I think an email would be good for that list, but whatever is easier for you. Much appreciated!

Funny story that. I was talking to both of you at the same time and I didn't even know it. Turns out the writer was an anon a few posts down (the one asking about what kind of artists we were looking for). He's already sent me an email and is interested in helping out. Pretty awesome coincidence that turned out to be.
We've been sending a few emails back and forth and I just sent him another one where I asked about the lozhq artist. If we're really lucky something might happen there.

Money would certainly go a long way in solving a lot of the hurdles these types of projects face. Though I could also see a project having its own set of issues once money is involved.

      Delete
    22. Sending the email right now.

Oh wow, really? Did he say anything about the artist?

Money unfortunately solves quite a bit.

      Delete
    23. Unfortunately the artist's hand/wrist has been injured for some time and it sounds like he got pretty burned by what happened to LoZ:HQ.
I finally got the whole story and its just crazy. I'm amazed the writer is willing to try and help the ZVN out after what happened to LoZ:HQ.

    1. A lot. But relating that to the project, I'd say SECREDER and Legoman are pretty inspirational.
Not much I can say about SECREDER, I just really love their work in general. Frankly, their artwork was the main reason I played through MGQ.
As for Legoman, while I don't particularly care for what he draws or how he draws it, I really respect him as an artist. I'm incredibly envious of his linework and sketches. I struggle quite a bit with starting images and sketching down decent foundations, so I really enjoy his work from that standpoint.

      Delete
    2. Actually I agree, I feel the exact same way about Legoman. I really don't care for the content of the porn, or his finished drawings as much as his incredibly clean/nice looking line art.

  34. Hey Ling, what kind of Artists are you looking for, just a yaoi or porn artist?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm looking for anyone who's has the time and dedication to work on something like this, whether they draw yaoi or not. Even though a yaoi artist has higher priority, its not like I can pick and choose who decides to help.
However, a yaoi artist would need to be able to sustain themselves from start to finish, as there would be little interference from me unless we both pushed to keep the artwork consistent with what we already have.

      Delete
    2. I'm not that great with anatomy, I'm just wondering if you needed an artist to pitch in for anything other than anything porn related, like backgrounds and such?

      Delete
    3. Because of how numerous the backgrounds are, and how much work it would take to draw them up from scratch we decided on taking screenshots from OoT. If an artist came along who was willing to draw over all those backgrounds then that'd be awesome, but it'd be a lot of work. We'll probably draw up backgrounds for the more important CGs no matter what though.
We could use someone skilled with photoshop for the UI and such. I've been doing that myself, but my knowledge of photoshop is fairly limited.

      Delete
    4. I actually wouldn't mind giving the backgrounds a shot. I think that would be fun, though unfortunately I am a slow worker and would only be able to draw a couple of backgrounds per month most likely, and I would probably have to work with you to keep it more uniform to the style of the current art in the VN. If you'd be willing for me to give it a shot, I can give you an email.

I'm not very proficient in photoshop, though able. UI stuff sounds a bit boring to create.

      Delete
    5. Great! Shoot me an email and I'll set you up with something.
And no worries about being slow. Everyone on the team is slow, myself included. What matters is whether or not you follow through. Or if you realize its just too much, you let us know. There'd be no hard feelings and I appreciate when people are straight about that.
As for keeping the style of the backgrounds consistent with what we have, I wouldn't worry about that too much. We'd have to see how things look first, but I probably won't be breathing down your neck.

As for the UI, you're right, working on that is very tedious. However, it is still very satisfying coming up with designs and finishing them. Its one of those things you appreciate when you look back on it.

  35. Why is it only you and chrom that visit the blog and not anyone else working on the vn?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Chrom is actually the one who wanted a blog and felt like being the PR guy. I wanted to be involved as well, but it wasn't until I realized the blog was moving pretty slowly that I tried to be more proactive with it.
I know our programmer has zero interest in the blog because he just doesn't want to deal with updating or maintaining it. Connor and buca are too "removed" from the project and all of its happenings to really care as well (though they may visit every once in a while, I'm not sure).
That's pretty much the team right there.

      Delete
    2. Why doesn't Chrom reply much? I just see him posting every now and then when it's usually in relation to some pornographic aspect mostly (sans his post earlier, which was mostly focused on a background). I vaguely remember there being a little jab at any yaoi artists who join who will earn a free homophobic remark from Chrom.

Is it just all of the talk about gay stuff that makes Chrom not wanna reply?

      Delete
    3. Do you enjoy maintaining the blog like you do Ling?

      Delete
    4. I remember that. While it was just one of my crummy jokes, I wouldn't put it past Chrom to make a few quips. But in all honestly I don't think Chrom truly feels too strongly either way about the yaoi issue. It certainly isn't preventing him from posting.
While he's the only one who consistently keeps me company in the group chat, he is fairly "removed" from the project. He's also pretty busy with school work at the moment.

      Delete
    5. Of course, otherwise there's no way I'd be making so many absurdly lengthy posts. Though it would be nice if I was capable of being a little more witty and concise. I think I tend to drone on a bit too much.

      Delete
    6. Nah, there's nothing wrong with going into detail when articulating yourself. It's much better than for instance, trying to articulate yourself so you may leave out critical bits of information. Plus it's just much more interesting to get the entire amount of your thoughts on a subject, instead of this small summary, just for the sake of being concise.

I say there's no reason for you to feel like you need to be more concise, and you're already witty enough.

      Delete
    7. I wouldn't want to put people off with walls of boring text so I'm glad you feel that way. If that's the case, it makes it worth typing all that stuff up.

      Delete
    8. I don't think you've put off anyone, I see people here writing more than you do...sometimes a lot lot more. If anything it encourages people to be detailed in their thoughts and opinions, which is great in itself.

    ReplyDelete
  37. What started from my grumblings about the team's situation just kind of exploded into a bunch of comments. I didn't really expect that, and I figured our programmer would've shown up by now, so things have just kind of dragged on. Some sort of Saria discussion would be pretty cool, but at this point it'd probably be better to make a new post for it once things pick up again.

As for the yaoi, I may be stepping on a landmine by responding, but many of the viewers here have been incredibly supportive despite being consistently let down by the lack of yaoi (which I said we were trying to include). The least I can do is try to address that and be straight with everyone.

  38. You ever consider taking donations?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Nah, we don't really want to give Nintendo any more reason to slap us upside the head with a C&D than they already have.
However, after all this is done, I would like to try making original projects and be able to help support myself with those if possible.

      Delete
    2. That would be pretty neat. Though projects that you get support on, usually you have to fanpander quite a bit for the big donations to roll in and get support from that.

It depends though entirely on what kind of project it is. If it's like a game (I'm not sure if you know about Kyrieru who made Kurovadis and Eroico, but he made tons of money and those were fun games even with the hentai) you can make a crap ton if you intend to sell it. If it's more of a step by step process where your fans have input and stuff, usually the donations and such require pandering to your audience quite a bit to get enough money to live off of it, or live well of of it.

      Delete
    3. Well, I'd probably try to sell them, unless I could somehow get popular enough to gather enough donations. The reason for this is I can't think of anything I'd rather be doing than creating this type of content. If I could somehow support myself with those projects (like Kyrieru seems to be doing) instead of my current crummy job, I'd love that. I'd at least want to give it a shot anyway.
I saw Kyrieru was looking to "hire" help with future projects. Obviously I wouldn't be able to do anything like that right now, nor am I sure if I'm up to stuff, but being involved in something like that AND making money from it would be incredible.

    1. There was never any question about which game we were going to use as the setting. The reasoning is pretty simple, the girls. We felt OoT had both quality and quantity in that regard. We also figured it'd be fairly simple to pull a few strings and get some other Zelda heroines into OoT if we ever had the time for that. Midna, Medli, Tetra, Aryll, and uh, Fi, are some of my personal favorites that I'd like to work in somehow if we ever have the time for it.

I like aspects from almost all the Zelda games. Its difficult to pick favorites, but I'd have to go with MM, WW, and OoT. I can still replay those to this day and have a lot of fun with them. They retain the feeling of adventure very well despite how often I go through them.

    4. Ruto by far, though all the girls are pretty great.

And no, I would try to give everyone an equal amount of attention unless there's some kind of time or development constraints.
